Thank you all for attending what was a particularly special reunion and celebration, to mark 160 years since James and Janet Farquharson emigrated to Dunedin, New Zealand.
JAMES AND JANET FARQUHARSON ARRIVED IN DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND IN 1863, AFTER LEAVING SCOTLAND ON THE WAVE QUEEN SOME MONTHS EARLIER.
Learning more about the early stages of James and Janet's emigration - having 8 children as Clan Farquharson's first New Zealand born descendants, building the homestead, and farming Signal Hill, Opoho, Dunedin.
FROM THE EIGHT DESCENDANTS BORN IN NEW ZEALAND.
Upon the decision to remain in New Zealand, James and Janet had 8 children – George, Helen, Francis, Agnes, James, Alexander, Penelope and William. Sadly, Janet passed away the year that William was born, making life particularly tough for the young family.
Many Farquharson descendants alive today recount with gratitude the determination of family to create a new life for us all, with James working hard to become a significant land owner, with high regard in the council and civil community.
